WBBP (BOAS) Chamber Repairs Fundraiser - Wed 31 May 2023
Activity Closed

The purpose of the chamber is to provide an objective measure of dog respiratory function. This measure has several applications:
1) RFG dispute resolution - the chamber will allow a subjective measure of a dog who has previously had a respiratory function grade performed. The machine is objective - like a weight scale and hence will give a definitive answer
2) the chamber allows us to start measuring the non-Pug / French bulldog and British bulldog breeds to validate the respiratory functional grade for these dogs (which is work started in Cambridge but will be a very slow process that we can help speed up).
3) It will allow further work particularly genetic studies, if we can measure the dogs in the chamber and then do genetic testing, we might find the connection between BOAS and a genetic marker specific for each breed (at the moment we have a risk marker for Norwich terriers that is unlikely to be relevant to any other breeds)
This is possibly one of our greatest opportunities to protect our breeds. We are incredibly fortunate to have one of the top specialists in the world that is not only ready and willing to work to protect these breeds but also owns French Bulldogs himself and has a deep love and admiration for our dogs.
